Corneofix® is a special adhesive collector foil designed to collect corneocytes, the flakes of dead cells from the stratum corneum. The number, size, and thickness of the collected corneocytes can provide valuable information about desquamation, dryness, scaling, and hydration condition of the skin surface.
The adhesive side of the Corneofix® foil is applied briefly to the selected skin area. When the foil is removed, corneocytes remain attached to the tape. Larger and thicker flakes are typically associated with dry or damaged skin, while well-hydrated skin usually shows smaller and more regular flakes.
Corneofix® is an ideal complement to the Visioscan® VC 20plus, allowing the collected flakes to be digitized and evaluated with software. Parameters such as the number, size, covered area of flakes, and desquamation index can be analyzed objectively.
The Corneofix® sample can also be evaluated with the SquameScan 850, which measures the protein content collected on the tape. This provides an additional quantitative method to assess the amount of stratum corneum material removed from the skin surface.
In addition to image-based and protein analysis, the collected skin material can also be used for further evaluation, such as lipids, fatty acids, microbiome studies, antimicrobial testing, histological examination, and other bioassays.
Corneofix® is widely used in cosmetic research, skin barrier studies, efficacy testing, formulation development, and claim substantiation, especially for products targeting skin renewal, exfoliation, dry skin, and scaly skin.

Corneofix® tapes collect dry skin scales from the skin surface to help evaluate skin dryness, flakiness, and desquamation.

The more and thicker the flakes collected on the tape, the drier the skin. Well-moisturized skin typically shows a thin and even corneocyte film.

Corneofix® is available in angular and disc-shaped formats, including F 20 (20x19.5mm), D 100 (14 mm Ø), D 102 (22 mm Ø), and D 104 (30 mm Ø), allowing selection based on the study area and protocol.

The tapes are completely harmless for the skin, and a safety data sheet can be provided upon request.

A dedicated Pressure-Aid-Instrument is available to apply the tape evenly on the skin with controlled contact pressure, improving measurement reproducibility. The Pressure-Aid-Instrument applies approximately 2.2 N pressure and helps standardize tape placement on the skin surface. The Pressure-Aid-Instrument is available with angular and round pressure surfaces in different sizes, including 20 × 20 mm, 16 mm, 24 mm, and 32 mm.

Corneofix® samples can be digitized and analyzed with the Visioscan® software to calculate parameters such as flake number, size, covered area, and desquamation index.

Used to collect and evaluate dry skin scales from the stratum corneum, helping assess skin dryness, flakiness, and surface condition.

Supports efficacy testing of moisturizers, barrier-repair products, hydrating formulations, and treatments for dry or scaly skin.

Useful for evaluating exfoliating products, peeling treatments, cleansers, and formulations designed to improve skin smoothness and renewal.

Corneofix® samples can be analyzed with imaging software to evaluate flake number, size, covered area, and desquamation index.

Collected samples can be used with SquameScan 850 to quantify protein content from the removed stratum corneum material.
Corneofix® is used to collect dry skin scales, or corneocytes, from the skin surface for evaluating desquamation, dryness, flakiness, and skin surface condition.
The more and thicker the flakes collected on the tape, the drier the skin is considered to be. Well-moisturized skin usually shows a thin and even film of corneocytes.
Corneofix® is available in different formats, including angular F 20 and disc-shaped versions D 100, D 102, and D 104. The disc-shaped tapes are available in 22 mm, 30 mm, and 14 mm diameters.
