AEVA-HE² HIGH RESOLUTION 3D SCANNER

The universal solution for in vivo 3D measurement

Overview

Quantifying skin and body changes with unprecedented precision

The AEVA-HE² is a universal high-resolution 3D skin imaging system designed for in-vivo measurement of skin shape, surface relief, and volume changes. Developed by EOTECH, it provides non-contact 3D imaging for clinical studies, cosmetic research, dermatological evaluation, and product efficacy testing.

Based on active stereometry, the AEVA-HE² combines fringe projection and stereovision to capture high-resolution 3D skin images with colour texture. Its dual 5 MP cameras and interchangeable fields of view support measurements from fine skin microstructures to larger facial or body areas.

With VisioTOP or VisioHOP positioning benches, the system enables reproducible before-and-after measurements. The AEVA software quantifies pores, wrinkles, fine lines, folds, and volume changes for objective skincare, anti-aging, aesthetic, and dermatological studies.

The AEVA-HE² is a turnkey 3D imaging solution for cosmetic manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, dermatological product companies, CROs, and research/objectification laboratories that need reliable, high-resolution, and reproducible skin surface measurements.

Substantiating cosmetic claims requires objective and reproduceable data

The efficacy of any cosmetic, dermatological, or aesthetic treatment must be proven with quantifiable evidence. However, measuring subtle changes on the living human body presents significant challenges:

Complexity

Skin is a dynamic, complex surface. Capturing micro-relief, wrinkles, pores, and volume changes accurately is difficult.

Variability

Subject repositioning, skin condition, and environmental factors can introduce variability, compromising the reliability of results over time.

Scalability

The need to measure everything from fine lines on the face to the morphology of body parts requires multiple, often incompatible, systems.

A complete setup ensures reliable and repeatable results at every stage

Our solution is built on three pillars that work in concert to eliminate variability and streamline the clinical study workflow.

Application

Measure skin at the micro-level to substantiate anti-ageing and smoothing claims

Using high-resolution fields of view — e.g., S: 80 × 65 mmM: 135 × 110 mm — the system can focus on specific zones to quantify subtle changes.

Typical Analyses

  • Skin microstructure, pores, fine lines & wrinkles
  • Eye bags, lips, sagging, cheek, nasal folds, glabella
  • Dimples and nodules for cellulite analysis

Calculated Parameters

  • 2D/3D roughness statistics — e.g., Star profile, FOITS
  • Statistics on features — number, volume, area, depth
  • Skin feature density — pores, fine lines, wrinkles
  • Volume of deviation for eye bags, lips, and sagging

Supports Claims Such As

  • Anti-ageing, anti-wrinkle
  • Pores reduction
  • Smoothing, hydration, re-pulping

Capture the entire face to evaluate firming, reshaping, and restructuring effects

Larger fields of view — e.g., L: 185 × 150 mm — allow for the evaluation of global topology changes, revealing the effects of products on the overall facial structure. Local zones can be extracted from these high-resolution global scans for combined analysis.

Typical Analyses

  • Re-pulping, firming, and sagging of the oval
  • Volume changes in cheeks, eye bags
  • Visibility of fine lines & wrinkles across the face

Calculated Parameters

  • Comparison of shape changes with statistical deviation — pseudo-colour display
  • Volume of the difference — positive = augmentation, negative = diminution
  • Section length, distance between points, and angle calculations

Supports Claims Such As

  • Rejuvenation, fillers, mesotherapy
  • Firming, reshaping, restructuring
  • Anti-ageing

Analyze 3D body morphology to quantify slimming and anti-cellulite treatments

Combined with the VisioHOP positioning bench, the AEVA-HE² — using the XL: 370 × 325 mm FOV — captures 360° data to measure shape and volume changes on any body part.

Typical Analyses

  • Morphology changes: thigh, abdomen, waist, breast, neck, arms
  • Dimples and nodules for cellulite evaluation

What is the primary purpose of the AEVA-HE² system?

The AEVA-HE² is a universal high-resolution 3D scanning sensor designed for the in vivo measurement of skin topography, face topology, and body morphology changes. It is primarily used to objectify product claims in the cosmetic and dermatological industries.

The system utilizes active stereometry, which is a state-of-the-art combination of fringes projection and stereovision. It uses a miniaturized projection unit with a 50 W high-power white LED and two high-resolution 5-megapixel cameras to calculate depth and shape.

The AEVA-HE² features multiple field of view (FOV) capability. By simply interchanging objective sets, users can switch between four standard configurations: S, M, L, and XL. This allows the sensor to transition from measuring microscopic skin relief to large body parts.

Yes. When combined with positioning benches such as VisioTOP or VisioHOP, AEVA-HE² supports reproducible positioning and imaging at different time points, making it suitable for treatment follow-up and clinical studies.

They help place the volunteer in a stable and centered position using tools such as a back head restearplugs, and a red laser line for lip alignment. The height and angle of the 3D sensor can also be adjusted according to previous settings for consistent image capture.

The system provides objective data for a wide variety of claims, including:

  • Local Zone: Anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, pore reduction, and hydration.
  • Global Face: Firming, reshaping, and fillers.
  • Body Part: Slimming and anti-cellulite

For more details about the analysis tools and measured parameters, please refer to the AEVA v4 software.

Yes, there is an optional high-resolution color camera add-on. This allows the system to map realistic color texture onto the 3D models, which is useful for visualizing skin tone and improving the realism of the digital models

The 3D Module in AEVA-HE and AEVA software provides precise geometry analysis for the face and lips. It is designed to capture high-resolution 3D measurements of the full face and lip area, giving researchers detailed quantitative data on shape, symmetry, volume, surface texture, and contour changes. This makes it especially useful for evaluating treatment effects, before-and-after comparisons, and objective cosmetic or dermatological studies.

The 4D Module brings skin dynamics to life by acquiring consecutive 3D images over time to analyze the impact of expression (mimic) on cosmetic (changes in skin topography, micro-relief, volume, and shape).

If your 3D imaging and analysis is focused only on the face, VisioTOP 500 would be sufficient.

However, if you need 3D imaging of body areas, either alone or in addition to the face, you would need VisioHOP.
