Open-Chamber TEWL Measurement for In Vitro Skin Barrier and Franz Cell Studies
The Invitro Tewameter® VT 310 is a specialized TEWL measurement probe designed for in vitro testing on Franz cells. It offers the proven advantages of the Courage + Khazaka Tewameter® open-chamber measurement principle, while being specially shaped to sit directly on the Franz cell membrane without the need for additional adapters.
The VT 310 can replace the upper donor chamber of a Franz cell, allowing TEWL to be measured in g/h/m², the internationally recognized unit for transepidermal water loss. This makes the system useful for studying skin permeability, dermal absorption, barrier function, and safety or efficacy testing before moving to in vivo studies.
For specific protocols, the probe can also be used with a high-quality Teflon centerpiece placed between the probe and the receptor chamber. This setup is useful when preparations need to be applied to the membrane during measurement, although the resulting TEWL values should be interpreted relatively rather than as absolute values.
The Invitro Tewameter® VT 310 supports continuous long-term measurements, and up to 10 probes can be used simultaneously, making it suitable for comparative studies and time-dependent testing. It can be connected to compatible MPA systems, allowing TEWL values, averages, standard deviations, temperature, and relative humidity data to be recorded and displayed during measurement.

The VT 310 is specially shaped to sit directly on the Franz cell membrane and can replace the upper donor chamber.

Uses the proven Tewameter® open-chamber method, allowing continuous TEWL measurement without collecting water inside the probe.

When placed directly on the membrane, TEWL values are expressed in g/h/m², the internationally recognized unit for skin water loss measurement.

The probe fits directly on the Franz cell membrane, simplifying the setup and reducing handling complexity.

A high-quality Teflon centerpiece can be used when preparations need to be applied to the membrane during measurement.

Up to 10 VT 310 probes can measure at the same time, making it suitable for comparative and parallel testing.

Supports continuous measurements over very long periods for time-dependent barrier, permeability, and absorption studies.

During measurement, the system can record TEWL values, averages, standard deviations, temperature, and relative humidity from the probe sensors.

The accuracy of the VT 310 probe can be checked quickly at any time.

The Invitro Tewameter® VT 310 can be connected to compatible Courage + Khazaka MPA systems.

Ideal for TEWL measurement on small areas such as nails, lips, scalp with hair, and localized treatment zones.

Supports product evaluation, claim substantiation, irritation testing, and barrier function studies where a very small measurement area is required.

Useful for studying barrier integrity, treatment response, wound healing, and skin recovery on special or difficult-to-access sites.

Suitable for TEWL measurement on hairy or small animals, where standard TEWL probes may be too large.
The Invitro Tewameter® VT 310 can be connected to compatible Courage + Khazaka MPA systems.

The Invitro Tewameter® VT 310 is used to measure TEWL in vitro, especially on Franz cells, to evaluate skin barrier function, permeability, dermal absorption, and formulation effects.
