VITRO-SKIN® is a synthetic, non-biological skin substrate designed to mimic important surface properties of human skin for in vitro testing. It is widely used in cosmetic, personal care, pharmaceutical, and medical device research as a standardized alternative substrate when testing directly on human skin is not practical during early-stage development.
VITRO-SKIN® is formulated to reproduce key characteristics of human skin surface, including topography, pH, critical surface tension, chemical reactivity, and ionic strength. This makes it suitable for evaluating how formulations spread, deposit, adhere, dry, resist water, or interact with a skin-like surface.
Because each sheet offers consistent surface properties, testing on VITRO-SKIN® can provide more reproducible results than testing on human skin, where natural variability between subjects can affect results. It is used in a broad range of methods, including in vitro SPF/UVA testing, sunscreen water resistance, skin deposition studies, adhesive testing, antimicrobial and antiviral testing, cosmetic formulation development, and product performance screening.
For R&D teams, VITRO-SKIN® provides a practical and economical platform to support method development, formulation comparison, performance evaluation, and claim substantiation before moving to more advanced clinical or human-based studies.
VITRO-SKIN® is currently used by over 175 leading companies worldwide

Vitro-Skin® is used as a reliable synthetic skin substrate for evaluating how formulations interact with the skin surface under controlled laboratory conditions. It is suitable for cosmetic, personal care, pharmaceutical, and medical device development where consistent, reproducible testing is required.

The VITRO-SKIN® Starter Kit includes two VITRO-SKIN® sheets and a Hydration Chamber for proper sample preparation before testing.
VITRO-SKIN® Starter Kit includes:

VITRO-SKIN® is a collagen based synthetic skin substrate, formulated and
produced to mimic human skin. The topography, pH and surface tension are
very similar to human skin, so it is the ideal substrate for in-vitro testing
where human skin is required.
VITRO-SKIN® is typically hydrated in a Hydration Chamber (part of the Vitro-Skin Starter Kit) prior to use, however some applications may not require hydration. The applications of this material are extremely diverse, so methods will vary depending on use application.
VITRO-SKIN® is used in a wide variety of industries where testing of products on skin is necessary. Some of the areas where Vitro-Skin is currentlybeing utilized include personal care, OTC products, chemical industry testing, Veterinary applications, disinfectants, Microbiome studies,
anti-viral and anti-bacterial studies, adhesives markets, medical devices, dermal penetration/absorption studies, skin moisturization studies, malodor studies, coefficient of friction studies, waterproof/water resistance studies, soft focus studies, etc.
