Overview

The Skin-pH-Meter PH 905 is a quick, easy, and economical tool designed to specifically measure the pH value of the skin surface and scalp. Developed by Courage + Khazaka electronic GmbH, it provides objective data for evaluating the skin’s acid mantle, hydrolipidic film, barrier condition, and changes caused by cosmetic products or dermatological treatments. 

The measurement is based on a high-quality combined electrode, where both the glass H+ ion-sensitive electrode and the reference electrode are integrated into one housing. This electrode is connected to a probe handle containing the measurement electronics, allowing direct and reliable pH assessment on the skin surface. 

Measuring skin surface pH is important for evaluating the quality of the hydrolipidic film and understanding how products may affect the skin’s natural balance. This is especially relevant in the development and testing of soaps, cleansers, detergents, moisturizers, sensitive skin products, deodorants, and scalp-care formulations. 

As part of the Courage + Khazaka MPA system, the Skin-pH-Meter PH 905 can be combined with other probes such as the Corneometer®, Tewameter®, Sebumeter®, Mexameter®, and Cutometer® to provide a more complete and quantitative analysis of skin and scalp condition.

Technology

The Skin-pH-Meter PH 905 measures skin surface pH using a high-quality combined electrode. In this electrode design, both the H+ ion-sensitive glass electrode and the additional reference electrode are integrated into one housing. 

The electrode is connected to a probe handle that contains the measurement electronics. When the probe is placed on the skin or scalp surface, the electrode detects the hydrogen ion activity and converts it into a pH value. 

This design allows fast, direct, and reliable measurement of the skin’s surface pH, making the PH 905 suitable for evaluating the skin’s acid mantle, hydrolipidic film, and changes caused by cosmetic products, cleansers, detergents, or dermatological treatments.

Yes. Regular calibration can be performed by the user to help maintain reliable and accurate measurements. 

Yes. The PH 905 probe requires proper care to maintain electrode performance. During measurement sessions, the pH probe should be kept in distilled water. When the probe is not being used, it should be stored in KCl solution according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
